The Pushpak Masjid, located in Aizawl, Mizoram, is indeed functional. It serves as a central place of worship for the Muslim community in Aizawl. This masjid, though modest in size compared to mosques in other cities, reflects the cultural and religious diversity of Mizoram, where a predominantly Christian population coexists harmoniously with people of other faiths.
The Jama Masjid in Dharamsala is a significant historical and religious landmark with a rich and resilient history. It was originally built in the year 1719 AD by Janab Ghulam Rasool, reflecting the architectural and cultural heritage of its time. For years, the mosque served as a center for the local Muslim community to gather and perform prayers. However, in 1905, the Kangra earthquake struck the region, causing considerable damage to the mosque, including its iconic dome. In the aftermath of the disaster, the Ahle Islam committee stepped forward to take responsibility for the restoration of the mosque. They successfully renovated the damaged sections, enabling the community to resume their regular prayers and reviving the mosque?s role as a spiritual hub. From 1947 to 1995, during a period of socio-political changes, the Muslim community in the region had access to only one mosque located in the Yol cantonment. This mosque became the central venue for organizing key congregational prayers, including Salat-ul-Jumuah (Friday prayers) and Salatul Eideen (prayers for Eid festivals). The absence of additional prayer spaces highlighted the need for further community infrastructure. In 1995, the establishment of the Aman-e-Awam welfare committee marked a new chapter for the Jama Masjid. This committee played a pivotal role in ensuring the continuity of salah, the obligatory five daily prayers, within the mosque premises. Their efforts underscored the importance of the mosque not only as a place of worship but also as a cornerstone of the Muslim community's spiritual and social life. Today, the Jama Masjid stands as a testament to the perseverance and unity of its community through challenging times. Its historical legacy and the ongoing efforts to maintain it highlight its enduring significance in Dharamsala's cultural and religious landscape.
