Makhdoom Mandov is a locally revered religious site situated in Bohri Kadal, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. The name Makhdoom Mandov strongly suggests an association with the spiritual legacy of Hazrat Hamza Makhdoom (RA), popularly known as Makhdoom Sahib, one of the most celebrated saints of Kashmir. Born around 1494 CE in Tujjar near Sopore, Hazrat Hamza Makhdoom (RA) became a leading scholar, reformer, and Sufi mystic whose teachings deeply shaped the Islamic and cultural life of the Valley. He pursued studies in Islamic jurisprudence, philosophy, and mysticism, and became known for promoting adherence to Shariah and Sunnah, reforming social practices, and strengthening the Hanafi school of jurisprudence in Kashmir. Makhdoom Sahib (RA) also played an important role in the spread of Islamic learning and mosque construction throughout Kashmir, while harmonizing local Rishi spiritual traditions with Sufism. Among his famous disciples were Baba Dawood Khaki (RA) and Khawaja Hasan Qari. He passed away in 1576 CE, and his body was buried at Hari Parbat, where a grand shrine was later commissioned by Emperor Akbar. Sites such as Makhdoom Mandov in Srinagar preserve and reflect this enduring spiritual influence. It likely developed as a local prayer and remembrance space where devotees gather for supplication, recitation, and honoring the saintly traditions connected with Makhdoom Sahib. Architecturally, the site reflects a modest urban Kashmiri sacred style suited to the old-city setting of Bohri Kadal. Today, it remains part of Srinagar’s living spiritual heritage and neighborhood religious life.
