Chatta Bazar, also known as the 'Hive Market,' was the first market in Hyderabad to have shops with a permanent roof. The entrance arch to the market, known as the Chatta Bazar arch, was originally the entrance to the Lakkad Kot, part of the Dewan Deodi (Prime Minister's estate). The triangular arch features three arches at the top and houses a Naubat Khana (drum chamber) on its roof, used for announcing visiting dignitaries. The market and arch are significant examples of Hyderabad?s historical architecture, preserving the legacy of the Qutb Shahi dynasty.

This feature provided much-needed shelter to vendors and buyers, and the market soon became one of the city's most important commercial hubs. The most notable feature of Chatta Bazar is its entrance arch, known as the Chatta Bazar arch. This arch was originally part of the Lakkad Kot, which was an entrance to the Dewan Deodi, the estate of the Prime Minister during the Qutb Shahi period. The design of the arch is quite unique, featuring a triangular elevation with a squared-off top, decorated with three arches. It serves as a testament to the architectural sophistication of the era. At the top of the arch sits a Naubat Khana, a drum chamber where the ceremonial announcements were made when visiting dignitaries arrived in the city. The chamber could be accessed by stairs located on the side of the arch. Historically, this was a place where the royal trumpet or drumbeats would announce the arrival of high-profile visitors, adding to the grandeur of the occasion. While most of the structures associated with Dewan Deodi have disappeared with time, the Chatta Bazar arch stands as a reminder of the area?s royal past. Along with the Salar Jung Museum's old entrance (opposite the Madina Building), the arch is one of the few surviving remnants of the once-grand estate, offering a glimpse into the city?s storied architectural heritage. The market itself, Chatta Bazar, continues to be a bustling marketplace, but it also holds cultural and historical significance. The structure reflects the rich history of Hyderabad, its once-prominent place in the trade routes, and the architectural innovations of the time.
