The Dewan Deori complex, built during the period of Dewan Mir Alam, the Prime Minister of Nizam III Sikander Jah, once spanned from the banks of the Musi River to the Mir Alam Mandi. Now, only the gate remains of what was once the grand entrance to the Salar Jung estate. The Dewan Deori estate, with palaces, guesthouses, and gardens, was split after the death of Salar Jung III. The gate, a semi-circular Roman arch, is flanked by two-storied octagonal rooms and has windows with a combination of pointed and segmental pediments.
The Dewan Deori, built during the tenure of Dewan Mir Alam, Prime Minister of the Nizam III Sikander Jah, was once the grand gateway to the magnificent Salar Jung estate, also known as the Dewan Deori complex. Spanning from the banks of the Musi River to Mir Alam Mandi, the estate was a sprawling residence featuring palaces, guesthouses, gardens, and pavilions, all overlooking the Musi River, which is where the Salar Jung Museum stands today. This royal estate was an epitome of grandeur, a symbol of the Nizam?s wealth and power. The Dewan Deori estate, once a thriving royal complex, witnessed significant changes following the demise of Salar Jung III Turab Ali Khan. The estate was divided among the heirs, and its various parts, including the palaces and gardens, were sold off. Today, only the Dewan Deori gate remains as a testament to the estate?s former glory. Located opposite the Madina Building, this gate once served as the main entrance to the Salar Jung Museum until the construction of a new building in the 1960s, which was moved to the banks of the Musi River. The architectural design of the gate is a significant example of Nizam-era construction. The gate features a semi-circular Roman arch, a structure that adds a touch of grandeur and serves as a historical marker of the time. On either side of the arch are two-storied octagonal rooms, which were originally built for specific purposes. The windows on the first floor of these rooms are adorned with a combination of pointed and segmental pediments, an interesting architectural feature that showcases the artistic expertise of the builders during that period. Though the Dewan Deori estate no longer exists in its full glory, the Dewan Deori gate continues to stand as a monument to Hyderabad?s royal history and the grandeur of the Nizams. This gate now serves as a reminder of the past, with the surrounding area and nearby buildings carrying the weight of history. Today, Dewan Deori is an important part of Hyderabad?s architectural heritage, and the remaining gate is a key marker of the Salar Jung estate?s past significance. The intricate design, the Roman arch, and the octagonal rooms continue to attract attention from visitors, and the gate serves as a cultural landmark in the Chatta Bazar area of Hyderabad.
