Historical and Religious Significance A Regional Markaz: This site functions as a Markaz (Centre) for the Tablighi Jamaat movement, which was founded in 1926 by Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Kandhlawi. The Alamathi centre is specifically dedicated to the movement's mission of reviving the core principles of Islam through grassroots missionary work (Dawah). Establishment: The Alamathi Markaz was formally established in 1998. Since its founding, it has grown from a local prayer space into a sprawling complex designed to accommodate the massive influx of people during district-level and state-level Ijthimas (congregations). The Six Principles: The religious activity at this centre is strictly guided by the movement’s "Six Principles": Kalimah (Faith), Salah (Prayer), Ilm-o-Zikr (Knowledge and Remembrance), Ikraam-e-Muslim (Respect for others), Ikhlas-e-Niyyat (Sincerity), and Dawat-o-Tableegh (Proselytisation). Spiritual Training: The centre serves as a departure point for Jamaats (groups of preachers) travelling for 3 days, 40 days (Chilla), or 4 months. The weekly sermons and evening sessions focus on self-reformation and the importance of simple, Sunnah-compliant living. Massive Congregations: During annual gatherings, the site transforms into a tent city, hosting thousands of people for three days of intense spiritual lectures, culminating in a collective prayer (Dua) for global peace and the spiritual welfare of the Ummah (community). Location and Connectivity: The site is strategically located in Alamathi, offering the vast open space required for large gatherings while remaining accessible to the major logistics and transit points of North Chennai. Expansive Infrastructure: The facility features massive halls and open grounds specifically designed to manage logistics for thousands of visitors, including dedicated areas for communal dining (Langar) and large-scale ablution facilities. Strategic Access: Its position on the Red Hills – Thiruvallur High Road and proximity to the Chennai Outer Ring Road (ORR) make it highly accessible for visitors coming from North Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
