The Dargaah Hazrath Aamir Kaleemi (R.A.Z), also known as the Pudupattu Dargah, is a highly revered Sufi shrine and spiritual centre situated on the SH 120 (Poonamallee–Perambakkam Road) in the Tiruvallur-Kanchipuram border region. It serves as the final resting place of the Sufi saint Hazrath Aamir Kaleemi Shah (RH) and is a major pilgrimage site for followers of the Aamiria Silsila (order). Historical and Religious Significance The Dargah is a beacon of Sufi culture in the region, drawing thousands of devotees regardless of their religious background, especially during the annual Urus festival. Silsila-e-Aamiria: The shrine is the spiritual heart of the Aamiria Sufi order. Hazrath Aamir Kaleemi Shah was a renowned scholar and mystic who dedicated his life to the propagation of Islamic spirituality, peace, and communal harmony. His teachings emphasise the inner dimension of Islam (Tasawwuf) and the service of humanity. Establishment: The Dargah and the associated mosque complex were formally established in 1984. Over the decades, it has grown from a humble shrine into a grand complex featuring a central dome, white minarets, and a spacious prayer hall. Spiritual Hub: The shrine is famous for its Ziyarat-e-Tabarrukat (viewing of sacred relics) and the performance of Zikr (spiritual chanting). The complex also houses a Madrasa where students receive religious and spiritual training in the classical Sufi tradition. Religious Pluralism: Like many Sufi shrines in Tamil Nadu, the Dargaah Hazrath Aamir Kaleemi is a site of deep religious synthesis. It is a common sight to see people from various faiths visiting the shrine to seek blessings, reflecting the inclusive "Dargah culture" of the state. Location and Accessibility: The Dargah is located in Pudupattu (near Kottaiyur/Pannur), an area characterised by its tranquil, semi-rural setting, which enhances the meditative atmosphere of the shrine. Traveller's Note: The Dargah is known for its serene and welcoming atmosphere. The best time to visit is during the annual Sandal and Urus festivals when the shrine is beautifully illuminated. Visitors are expected to dress modestly and maintain silence within the inner sanctum. The shrine is easily accessible via the MTC bus route 578PC from Poonamallee.
