The location is approximately 2 km north-east of Nizamuddin Railway Station and about 1.6 km north-east of Nizamuddin Bus Stand, accessible via Bharat Scouts and Guides Marg, directly opposite the Nizamuddin Dargah. The well, dating back to the Early Mughal period, is located near the Humayun Tomb complex and holds historical significance due to its role in the region's water management system. During the Mughal era, there was a need to efficiently tap into groundwater, store rainwater, and make it accessible to the local population. This led to the construction of numerous tanks and wells, which were not only functional but also showcased the artistry and architectural expertise of the time. This particular well is constructed using rubble masonry and follows a circular plan. While the well has unfortunately been filled with garbage and stones in recent years, the remaining superstructure continues to contribute to the overall character of the complex. The well is a testament to the innovative water management solutions of the Mughal period, which reflect the importance of ensuring a reliable water source for the growing population surrounding important monuments such as the Humayun Tomb. Even though it is no longer operational, the well stands as an important piece of architectural history that demonstrates the integration of utility and artistry in Mughal constructions.
