Qanati Masjid

The site is approximately 600 meters southeast of the Jor Bagh Metro Station and around 650 meters northeast of the Safdarjung Bus Stand, located on Karbala Road. It is well-connected by public transportation. The nearest airport is Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, while New Delhi Railway Station serves as the closest railhead. The Jor Bagh Bus Stand also provides easy access to the location.

The Qanati Masjid, built during the Mughal period, is a remarkable example of Mughal architecture. It is constructed on a raised platform, surrounded by earth that conceals the chamber beneath the mosque. The mosque is primarily built using random rubble masonry, along with lime and brick as essential materials. The courtyard is accessible via a flight of steps, leading to the prayer chamber. The western screen wall of the mosque features five mihrab recesses, with arches adorned in various decorative styles. The central mihrab stands out with an elevated wall and flanking minarets. While the north end has a return wall intact, the south wall has collapsed over time. The top of the structure is adorned with battlements. The west screen wall is coated with white lime plaster, enhancing its aesthetic and historical value. The prayer chamber measures approximately 13 meters by 2.56 meters, while the open courtyard spans about 13 meters by 12.59 meters. This courtyard is now covered with a Shamiana supported by pillars, which has given the mosque its name, "Qanati Masjid." Despite its age, the mosque continues to serve as a place of regular congregational prayers, preserving its religious significance.
