The historic mosque, built by Kaniz-i-Fatima, who was honored with the title Fakr-i-Jahan, stands as a remarkable testament to Mughal architecture. It was constructed in memory of her husband, Shujaat Khan, a noble in Emperor Aurangzeb's court. This rectangular mosque is elevated on a platform approximately 2.5 meters high, which is lined with shops on its exterior. The courtyard is enclosed with arcades on the northern and southern sides, adding to its architectural charm. The mosque features three bays, each crowned with intricately designed domes. These domes are adorned with alternate black and white marble strips, enhancing their visual appeal. The central dome is particularly striking, with a bulbous shape and an inverted lotus cresting. Atop the high drum of the dome sits a kalasha-shaped metal finial, balanced by four square minarets at the corners, each crowned with elegant cupolas. The arches of the mosque are multi-foiled, showcasing the finesse of Mughal craftsmanship. Entry to the mosque is facilitated through a doorway located on the southeast end, leading to a flight of steps. Above the central arch of the mosque, there is an inscription that adds a historical and spiritual significance to the structure. The domes? alternating marble strips further enhance its grandeur, reflecting the skill and artistry of the Mughal era. The primary materials used in constructing the mosque include brick masonry, red sandstone, and marble. These materials not only contribute to the mosque's aesthetic beauty but also to its durability, allowing it to retain its magnificence over centuries. The mosque continues to hold religious importance, hosting regular prayers and significant ceremonies, serving as a vital cultural and spiritual landmark in the region.
