Built 190 years ago, this exquisite structure was commissioned by King Nasir-ud-Din Haidar Shah, the grandson of Nawab Saadat Ali Khan II, in 1831. It served as a royal observatory, reflecting the king's deep fascination with astronomy and the mysteries of the stars. History and Significance The idea for the royal observatory was proposed by Hakim Mehdi Ali Khan, a trusted advisor to the king. The construction involved the efforts of hundreds of skilled artisans and laborers. The observatory housed several advanced instruments of its time, including telescopes, barometers, magnetometers, thermometers, and lodestones. A brass pillar, symbolizing scientific progress, stood at the center of this magnificent structure. Architectural Features Two-Storeyed Design: The building comprises two floors, featuring two halls and basements, showcasing the architectural finesse of the era. Circular Room and Dome: Atop the mansion is a circular room with a metallic hemispherical dome. This dome was equipped with a wheel and pulley system, allowing it to rotate and adjust for star observation. This innovative mechanism was truly ahead of its time.
