Tuglaq Garden Wall

Approach: Approximately 100 meters to the east of Vasant Vihar metro station and approximately 125 meters to the northeast of Vasant Vihar bus stand. Airport: IGI (Indira Gandhi International Airport) Railway Station: Nizamuddin Bus Station: Vasant Vihar

The Tughlaq garden is the only surviving example of its kind in Delhi, offering a unique glimpse into the architectural and garden planning of the Tughlaq era. Although there is no significant traditional or local information available about the site, it is historically important as it reflects the distinctive style of the Tughlaq dynasty. The garden itself is enclosed by a wall that stands about 1.75 meters high and stretches for over 30 meters. Atop this wall runs a U-shaped water channel, likely used to distribute water throughout the garden, emphasizing the Tughlaq era's mastery in water management. The garden is designed on four distinct levels, suggesting a carefully planned landscape. In the center of the wall, there is an arched recess facing east, which may have served both decorative and functional purposes. The wall is constructed using random rubble masonry, a technique commonly used during the Tughlaq period. This combination of structural and ornamental elements marks the Tughlaq garden as an important remnant of medieval garden architecture in Delhi.
