Takya Azim Shah Masjid Peer

The approach is approximately 650 meters to the south-west of Mehrauli bus terminal via Kalka Das Marg, and about 1.7 kilometers to the north-west of Qutub Minar metro station via NH 148A. Turn right onto Kalka Das Marg, west of Mehrauli-Gurugram Road, which leads to the cremation ground.

The late Mughal mosque is dedicated to the saint Azim Shah, who lived during the reign of Bahadur Shah II. The mosque is an important local religious site, where regular prayers are held along with other significant religious ceremonies. Architecturally, it follows the Mughal style, characterized by intricate design elements and a grand structure. The building is constructed on a rectangular plan, consisting of three compartments, with an entrance located on the eastern side. The central rectangular chamber serves as the mosque itself. The western Qibla wall features three mihrab recesses, indicating the direction of prayer. The mosque is further adorned with a kangura-patterned parapet and a simple MS (mild steel) entrance gateway. The surrounding area is enclosed with a brick masonry wall on the south and east sides, while the northern side has been altered with a new brick structure. The mosque is also flanked by two MS entrance gateways with arched tops. The boundary wall incorporates six arched recesses, adding to the structure's aesthetic. Inside the mosque, there is an open courtyard, and to the north of this courtyard, several unknown plastered graves are located. The original enclosure of the mosque is built using rubble masonry and plaster, which gives the structure a traditional, time-worn appearance. However, modern building materials such as brick, cement, concrete, and MS corrugated sheets have been used for alterations and additions to the mosque, reflecting the ongoing changes to the site over time.
