Shaikh Najibuddin Mutawakkil was a revered saint who lived in Delhi and passed away in 671 A.H. (1272-73 A.D.). He was a disciple and the brother of the famous Sufi saint Baba Farid Shakar Ganj. The title "Mutawakkil," which means "one who has no trust in worldly possessions and has placed complete faith in Allah," was bestowed upon him due to his deep spiritual devotion and detachment from material life. His grave continues to be a site of religious significance, attracting devotees who visit to offer prayers and seek blessings. Visitors bring offerings such as sweets, flowers, and burning incense as a mark of respect and devotion. The architectural style of the structure housing his grave is influenced by the Khilji era, reflecting the design sensibilities of that time. The grave itself is situated within a small enclosure, surrounded by a protective wall. It is elevated on a raised platform, signifying its importance. A modern inscription is engraved on a small stone tablet fixed to the northern wall of the enclosure, directly opposite the gravesite. This inscription states: "The sacred grave of his holiness Shaikh Najibuddin Mutawakkil, may the blessing of God be upon him. His death occurred in the year 671 Hijra." The floor of the enclosure is adorned with marble, enhancing the sanctity and aesthetics of the space. The structure is built using a combination of traditional and modern materials. Rubble masonry forms the core of the construction, providing durability and stability. The use of marble adds a sense of refinement and reverence, while cement concrete reinforces the structure, ensuring its longevity. This blend of materials highlights both historical and contemporary influences, preserving the sanctity of the site while accommodating modern preservation techniques.
