Hazrat Sheikh Salahuddin Darvesh was a prominent 14th-century Sufi saint of the Suhrawardi order, renowned for his unwavering stance against the oppressive policies of Sultan Muhammad Tughlaq. He was a disciple and successor (khalifa) of Sheikh Sadruddin, and his spiritual stature was comparable to that of Sheikh Nasiruddin Mahmud Chirag-e-Delhi. Originally from Multan, Hazrat Salahuddin Darvesh settled in Delhi, where he became a significant spiritual figure. He was known for his forthrightness and did not hesitate to confront the rulers of his time. He passed away in 1348 CE (749 AH) and was buried in his own khanqah (spiritual center) in Savitri Nagar, Delhi. The shrine features a typical pavilion tomb with a dome supported by pillars, and adjacent to it is a madrasa (Islamic school). The area also contains several other graves, some of which are of unknown disciples of the saint. The annual urs (death anniversary) of Hazrat Sheikh Salahuddin Darvesh is observed on the 22nd of Safar in the Islamic calendar. His legacy continues to inspire many, and his shrine remains a place of reverence and pilgrimage for devotees.
