Syed Abdul Rehman Jilani Dehlvi was a prominent Sufi saint of the Qadiriyya order in the Indian subcontinent. Born in 1615 CE (1024 AH) in Hama, Syria, he was the son of Syed Abdul Qadir, from whom he received his early education. At the age of 35, he spent three years at the tomb of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani in Baghdad, deepening his spiritual practice. In 1652 CE (1062 AH), during the reign of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, he traveled to India to meet Syed Abdul Jaleel and eventually settled in Delhi, establishing a khanqah (Sufi lodge) and the Shah Abdul Rehman Mosque. Syed Abdul Rehman Jilani Dehlvi married Syeda Zahida, a descendant of the Jilani lineage, and they had two sons: Syed Taj-ul-Arifeen and Syed Abdul Aziz. His most notable disciple was Sultan Bahoo, who became his senior spiritual successor. Other successors included Shah Habib Allah Qadri and Syed Mohammad Siddique, the first caretaker of his shrine. He passed away on 16 November 1677 CE (21 Ramadan 1088 AH) during the reign of Emperor Aurangzeb. His shrine is located in Delhi, where his death anniversary (urs) is commemorated annually on the 21st of Ramadan. Syed Abdul Rehman Jilani Dehlvi's contributions significantly influenced the spread of the Qadiriyya order in India, and his legacy continues to inspire many in the Sufi tradition.
