The Tomb of Abdul Rahim Khan-i-Khana, located in Nizamuddin East, New Delhi, is a significant Mughal-era monument. Abdul Rahim Khan-i-Khana (1556?1627) was a prominent poet, scholar, and one of the nine ministers (Navaratnas) in Emperor Akbar's court. He is renowned for his Hindi couplets and contributions to literature and astrology. Constructed around 1598, the tomb was initially built by Rahim for his wife, making it the first Mughal tomb dedicated to a woman, even before the Taj Mahal. After his death in 1627, Rahim was also interred there. The tomb's architecture features a square plan with a prominent dome, adorned with red sandstone and white marble. It is situated along the Mathura Road, near Humayun's Tomb and the Dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya. The structure was stripped of its facing in the 18th century for use in the construction of Safdarjung's Tomb. In 2014, the Aga Khan Trust for Culture initiated a restoration project, and after six years of work, the tomb was reopened to the public in 2020. This restoration is considered one of the largest conservation projects undertaken for a monument of national importance in India.
