Ek Rat Wali Masjid, also known as Ek Raat Ki Masjid, is a well-known historic mosque located near the Eidgah on Eidgah Road in Gandhi Nagar, Moradabad. The mosque is particularly associated with the local tradition that it was constructed in a single night, giving it its distinctive name.
Ek Rat Wali Masjid is a prominent mosque situated in the Gandhi Nagar area of Moradabad, close to the city's historic Eidgah. The mosque is locally known by the name Ek Raat Wali Masjid, meaning “the mosque of one night,” because of a long-standing local tradition that the structure was built in a single night. This story is part of the mosque's popular identity and is best understood as local folklore rather than a historically documented construction account. The mosque occupies an important position within the religious landscape around Moradabad's Eidgah. Historical accounts of the area note that large congregations gathered around the Eidgah and the mosque during Eid, making the site closely connected with the religious and social life of the city. The mosque also became associated with memories of the Moradabad disturbances of 1980, when thousands of worshippers had gathered in the Eidgah area on Eid. Contemporary historical reporting records the mosque as being adjacent to the Eidgah and describes people taking shelter there during the violence. Today, Ek Rat Wali Masjid continues to function as an active place of Islamic worship. Public listings describe facilities including a men's prayer hall and wudu area, while local accounts also associate the mosque with Qur'an learning and Hifz education. Its location beside the Eidgah and its long-standing presence in the neighborhood give it importance not only as a religious building but also as a recognizable local landmark of Moradabad.
