This historic gateway, located on the Grand Trunk Road in North Delhi, is one of the prominent architectural landmarks of the city. Commissioned in 1728 by Nasir Mahaldar Khan, an official in the court of Mughal emperor Muhammad Shah Rangeela, the structure reflects the grandeur of Indo-Persian architectural style. The gateway is designed on a rectangular plan and features a triple-arched façade with flat domes, creating a striking visual impact. Each of the three arched entrances contains two recessed arches, intricately decorated with geometric and floral motifs. The front parapet showcases a battlement-style kangura pattern, while the central rear arch bears an Arabic inscription set on a small white panel. The central arch is covered with a circular vault adorned with pendantives, while the flanking sections include barrel vaults supported by triangular brackets on all four sides. An additional arch with a circular vault follows each barrel vault. The side walls feature arched openings with niches, and the rear side includes four drain outlets, each embellished with floral carvings. The materials used in the construction include lakhori bricks and red sandstone as core structural components. The binding mixture comprises brick dust (surkhi), lime, and jeera mortar, finished with a smooth layer of lime plaster. Together, these elements contribute to the monument's architectural beauty and historical value.
