Calcutta Madrasah, also known as Aliah Madrasah, holds the distinction of being West Bengal’s first madrasah, founded in 1780 by the British East India Company under Warren Hastings to provide education for the growing bureaucracy of Company Raj. Located in Kolkata, it is affiliated with the West Bengal Board of Madrasah Education (WBBME), which oversees its modernized curriculum combining secular subjects like English, mathematics, physical science, life science, history, and geography with Islamic studies, including Arabic, Hadith, Tafsir, and Fiqh.
