This site is reputed to contain the ruins of Matya Mahal, where it is believed that Emperor Shahjahan stayed while the Red Fort was under construction. The architectural style of the structure is Indo-Persian. The building is a magnificent and spacious mosque with a three-bay wide layout, entered through cusped arched openings. The central chamber is topped with a bulbous dome crowned by a finial. A water tank is located in the north-east corner of the compound. The parapet wall is decorated with Kangoora patterns. Access to the mosque’s courtyard is through a pointed arched gateway, followed by a flight of stairs. This mosque, dating back to the Mughal period, stands as a significant piece of built heritage. The interior structure is constructed using lakhori bricks and lime mortar, while the exterior facade is made of sandstone. Marble is also used on the main arch and the floor.
