The college was established by Mahatma Gandhi as part of the movement to revive nationalist education based on indigenous systems of knowledge. It was founded during the Non-Cooperation Movement. The architectural style of the structure reflects the British period. The campus comprises a single-storey complex consisting of three buildings, each designed in the same architectural pattern. The buildings feature pointed arched openings in the verandah and a battlemented parapet design on its drum, topped with a canopy and a projected balcony adorned with trellis designs and parapet walls. The structure is constructed using brick masonry and is plastered with lime mortar. The flooring is made of stone and marble, while the doors and windows are crafted from wood and fitted with iron grills.
