This structure is an aqueduct that also serves as a passageway. It was constructed over the moat surrounding the Red Fort and replaced the original wooden drawbridge. The bridge was built during the British period for Emperor Akbar II by Dilawar-Ud-Daula Robert Macpherson, Bahadur, Diler Jung. The structure is supported by two semi-circular vaults and is now topped with a modern metalled road. An inscription can be seen at the center above the arch level, and a guard room is located at the north-eastern corner. The bridge is built using red sandstone and plaster, reflecting the architectural characteristics of the British period.
