The Tomb of Muhammad Quli Khan, located in Mehrauli Archaeological Park near the Qutub Minar complex in Delhi, is a lesser-known yet historically significant monument from the Mughal period. Muhammad Quli Khan was the brother of Adham Khan, a general in the court of Emperor Akbar. Constructed in the late 16th century, the tomb is an example of early Mughal architecture, reflecting a fusion of Persian and indigenous Indian styles. The structure is octagonal, built with grey stone and decorated with red sandstone and marble inlays, showcasing intricate geometric and floral patterns. During British rule in the 19th century, the tomb was repurposed by Sir Thomas Metcalfe, the British Resident at the Mughal court, who converted it into a pleasure retreat or "Dilkhusha" (meaning "Heart's Delight"). He made significant modifications, including landscaped gardens, a library, and interior furnishings, transforming the tomb into a colonial-style country house.
