Crescent, formerly known as Willingdon Crescent in New Delhi, holds significant historical importance. During the Mughal era, the area featured a large tank and served as a swimming pool. In 1737, it became the site of the Battle of Delhi, where the Marathas defeated the Mughals. The location later became known for Talkatora Garden, a Mughal-era garden named after the "tal" (tank) and "katora" (bowl-shaped natural depression) formed by the surrounding hilly terrain. Although the original pond has vanished, remnants of the old embankment still exist, including a long wall and domed octagonal pavilions at the garden's northwestern end. These structures once helped retain rainwater flowing into the tank. In 1736–37, the Maratha army used the area as a camping ground. Today, the garden is widely recognized for the Talkatora Stadium and attracts numerous tourists.
