Jamia Hamdard is a renowned university in New Delhi, India, with a rich legacy rooted in traditional medicine and modern science. Its foundation dates back to 1906 when Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed, a famous practitioner of Unani medicine, started a small clinic in Old Delhi called “Hamdard,” meaning “companion in suffering.” His son, Hakeem Abdul Hameed, carried forward his vision and established several educational and research institutions between the 1960s and 1980s, including the Institute of History of Medicine and Medical Research and the Hamdard College of Pharmacy. In 1989, these institutions were merged and granted the status of a "Deemed to be University" by the Government of India, forming Jamia Hamdard.
