As the name “Purana” (old) suggests, this masjid is believed to be among the earliest Islamic places of worship in the Khagra area, built decades ago when Kishanganj was still a growing town with clustered settlements and shared hopes. While the exact year of its founding has been lost to oral history, elder residents estimate that Purana Khagra Masjid was constructed in the 1950s or earlier, making it not just a mosque, but a local heritage site. Over the decades, as Kishanganj expanded and newer mosques emerged, this masjid retained its relevance through continuity and respect.
