Ghaziuddin Khan Tomb

The Tomb of Ghaziuddin Khan, nestled in the bustling city of Delhi, is a remarkable example of Mughal architectural splendor and a monument to one of its significant historical figures. Constructed in the early 18th century, this tomb honors Ghaziuddin Khan, a distinguished nobleman of the Mughal court. Mir Shihab-ud-Din Siddiqi (c. 1649?8 December 1710), better known by his title Ghaziuddin Khan, was a prominent military general and nobleman of Central Asian origin in the Mughal Empire. Born in Bukhara (present-day Uzbekistan), he was the eldest son of Abid Khan, a favored noble of Emperor Aurangzeb, and traced his lineage to the renowned Sufi saint Shihabuddin Suhrawardi. Arriving in Mughal India around 1670, Ghaziuddin Khan rose through the ranks under Aurangzeb's patronage, earning a reputation for his military prowess, particularly in the Deccan campaigns. For his victories against the Marathas, he was awarded the titles "Ghaziuddin Khan Bahadur" in 1684 and "Firuz Jang" in 1685. He also undertook a perilous mission during the rebellion of Aurangzeb?s fourth son, Prince Muhammad Akbar, in 1681. Over his career, he held key administrative posts, including the governorship of Berar Subah under Aurangzeb and a brief tenure as governor of Gujarat Subah during Bahadur Shah's reign. Ghaziuddin Khan passed away in Ahmedabad on 8 December 1710, and his remains were transported to Delhi for burial at the Madrasa Ghaziuddin Khan, a complex he had established near Ajmeri Gate. His death marked the confiscation of his assets by the Mughal state, as was customary at the time.
