Known for its peaceful atmosphere, regular salah, and active participation in Ramadan and Eid, the masjid is cherished for its simplicity and accessibility. In the diverse neighborhood of Paigamber Pur Kolhua, nestled near Shia Toli and Maula Ali Nagar, stands Noori Jama Masjid, a modest but spiritually rich mosque that serves the Sunni Muslim community of this bustling area. Located on Noori Masjid Road in Basant Bihar Colony, the mosque is well-known to locals for its inclusivity, regular religious activity, and deep sense of familiarity. Built in the early 2000s, the masjid’s establishment reflected the need for a dedicated space for Sunni residents in a region where Shia and Sunni communities have long coexisted with mutual respect. Its name—“Noori”, meaning “illuminated” or “light-filled”—aptly captures the vision behind it: to offer guidance, light, and solace to those who enter its gates. The structure is compact yet functional. The masjid is easily identifiable by its green dome, arched entrance, and tall gateposts painted in soothing white and light blue. A small signboard on Noori Masjid Road guides visitors toward its entry. The main prayer hall accommodates around 80–100 worshippers, with overflow areas available in the covered courtyard during Friday prayers and festive occasions. Inside, the prayer space is laid out with traditional rugs, neatly kept rows, and a mihrab facing the qibla wall. A modest minbar stands to the right, used during Jum’ah sermons. The imam, a respected hafiz and community figure, leads daily prayers, conducts Jum’ah khutbahs, and offers religious guidance to families. His emphasis is on maintaining unity, punctuality in prayers, and practicing Islam with humility and compassion. A small madarsa unit operates in the mosque premises, offering evening Qur’anic classes to children from the surrounding neighborhoods. Young boys and girls learn basic Arabic reading, short surahs, and Islamic values in a disciplined yet friendly setting. Parents often sit in the courtyard during class hours, creating a wholesome family-centered environment. During Ramadan, Noori Jama Masjid is adorned with simple lighting. The community gathers for iftar, shared meals, and taraweeh prayers, with the masjid committee managing arrangements smoothly through local donations. On Eid, the mosque becomes a vibrant hub—men dressed in white fill the hall and courtyard, exchanging salaams and takbeerat before heading home to celebrate. Despite being modest in size, the masjid’s maintenance team ensures it remains clean, orderly, and welcoming. Shoe racks, water dispensers, and updated prayer time displays are some of the small touches that reflect the community’s care and organization. In an area where multiple faiths and Islamic traditions meet, Noori Jama Masjid stands as a beacon of balanced devotion—welcoming all with warmth and offering a space where faith, respect, and simplicity shine.
