In the heart of Mahammadpur Kazi, just off Rambagh Road in the Kanhauli locality of Muzaffarpur, stands Haji Khuda Bakhsh Masjid, a modest yet respected mosque known for its rootedness in local heritage and its continuous service to the community. The masjid is named in honor of Haji Khuda Bakhsh, a generous and devout figure from the area whose contributions to Islamic welfare and local development are still remembered today. Constructed in the late 1980s to early 1990s, the mosque was built with community collaboration and personal initiative, driven by the desire to create a dedicated prayer space in the growing Rambagh–Kanhauli region. Over the years, it has grown into a vital religious hub for families, students, shopkeepers, and elders residing in the surrounding streets. Architecturally, the mosque is modest but functional. Painted in white and light pastel tones, the masjid features a main prayer hall accommodating 70–90 worshippers, a mihrab with simple calligraphy, and a wudu area at the side of the entrance. Ceiling fans and window ventilation provide comfort, while the floor is lined with clean prayer rugs that are maintained regularly. The mosque’s schedule is structured around the five daily salah, each attended faithfully by local residents. The Friday Jum’ah khutbah is known for being concise yet meaningful, with the imam often linking verses of the Qur’an to social responsibility, moral conduct, and day-to-day challenges faced by working families. Special attention is paid to punctuality, cleanliness, and spiritual discipline. During Ramadan, the masjid transforms into a warm center of devotion. From the peaceful pre-dawn Suhoor and Fajr to the communal Iftar meals, the masjid is filled with the soft buzz of worshippers and volunteers. Taraweeh prayers are conducted with attentiveness, and the atmosphere remains spiritual, unpretentious, and welcoming to all age groups. On Laylat al-Qadr, extended prayers and Qur’an recitation sessions continue late into the night, bringing together the neighborhood in quiet reflection. The masjid also plays a small but steady educational role. Local children gather after Asr or Maghrib for Qur’an reading sessions, learning tajweed and basic Islamic principles under the imam’s guidance. Though not a formal madrasa, the mosque remains a trusted space where religious values are gently passed on to the younger generation. Eid prayers at Haji Khuda Bakhsh Masjid are well-attended, with extra prayer mats spread outside when the main hall overflows. After salah, hugs and greetings flow freely, and elders bless the young. The masjid committee ensures that donations, fitrah, and zakat are distributed to those in need. To this day, Haji Khuda Bakhsh Masjid is a quiet yet enduring symbol of neighborhood faith — a space where prayer, memory, and community life interweave under the shade of old trees and soft echoes of the Adhan.
