Located in the growing neighborhood of Jagdamba Nagar in Paigamber Pur Kolhua, New Gousia Masjid stands as a tranquil space for daily worship and spiritual reflection. Built to meet the prayer needs of a rapidly expanding residential area, the mosque now hosts all five daily prayers, Friday Jumu’ah, and festive Eid gatherings. Though compact, the masjid reflects modern sensibilities with a clean structure, tiled interiors, and a calm atmosphere. Serving both the long-time residents and newer families settling in the area, it plays a central role in fostering brotherhood, shared learning, and community support in this part of Muzaffarpur.
In the developing lanes of Jagdamba Nagar, nestled within Paigamber Pur Kolhua, New Gousia Masjid has emerged as an essential spiritual and social space for the local Muslim population. With Muzaffarpur’s outskirts growing steadily, this neighborhood saw a rise in new homes, young families, and a clear need for a nearby place of worship. Out of this necessity and devotion, New Gousia Masjid was established in the mid-2010s by local residents and contributors who envisioned a serene, functional mosque close to home. The mosque is built on a compact plot but makes intelligent use of its space. The exterior is clean and minimalist, with a white façade, green-painted doors, and a simple dome that identifies it unmistakably as a masjid. Inside, the prayer hall accommodates around 60–70 worshippers, and during Jumu’ah or Ramadan, mats are spread outside in the small courtyard to allow for overflow. The flooring is fully tiled, and the mihrab is modest but neatly finished, giving the prayer space an organized, peaceful feel. A wall-mounted board announces prayer times, and a few hanging fans help keep the space cool during warmer months. The wudu area is small but well-kept, with regular maintenance handled by local volunteers and committee members. The mosque maintains a steady rhythm of the five daily prayers, led by a resident imam. The Jumu’ah khutbah is usually concise and community-focused, delivered in Urdu, and often touches on issues relevant to everyday life — neighborly conduct, youth behavior, health, and spirituality. Women’s prayer space is not formally established yet, but there are ongoing discussions in the committee about future expansions. During Ramadan, New Gousia Masjid transforms into a more active center. Taraweeh prayers are led by young huffaz from the community or nearby madrasas. Iftar arrangements are simple yet communal — with dates, fruits, and drinks donated by residents, and an iftar rota maintained through the month. Laylatul Qadr is observed with special night prayers and Qur'an recitation, and many stay until suhoor in quiet reflection. The masjid does not run a full-time madrasa, but weekend Qur’an classes for children and teenagers are a key activity. Basic Arabic reading, memorization of short surahs, and lessons in Islamic manners are taught. These sessions often conclude with small refreshments and interaction between elders and children — nurturing both learning and intergenerational ties. New Gousia Masjid, though new in name and structure, already holds a strong emotional and spiritual place in the hearts of local worshippers. It represents the aspirations of a growing neighborhood to stay rooted in faith, guided by simplicity, sincerity, and shared responsibility.
