Located on Sanskrit College Road, just beside the prominent Hazrat Bilal Jama Masjid, this institution reflects the neighborhood’s deep-rooted connection to Islamic tradition, learning, and shared values. Founded in the early 2000s, Jamia Nuriya was established by local scholars and elders who envisioned a space that could provide both structured Islamic education and serve as a center for daily prayers. As more families settled in Kanhauli and Kanauli Bishundat, the need for a madrasa aligned with mainstream masjid life became essential — Jamia Nuriya rose to meet this call. The masjid structure itself is modest yet functional. With a white-painted façade and a simple entrance arch, it houses a clean prayer hall that can accommodate 60–70 worshippers at once. Regular five-time prayers, including Jumu’ah, are conducted here with consistency. During Ramadan, taraweeh prayers, iftar gatherings, and Qur’anic recitations breathe extra life into the masjid, attracting not only locals but students and visitors as well. Adjoining the masjid is the madrasa section, a two-room educational space where students — mostly from underprivileged backgrounds — study under qualified teachers. The curriculum covers Nazirah Qur’an, Hifz, Arabic grammar, basic fiqh, and moral education (Akhlaqiyat). The madrasa runs in two shifts: mornings for Qur’anic learning, and evenings for general tutoring and Islamic values. Weekly dars (lectures) are held after Maghrib or Isha, often focusing on Islamic history, prophetic sayings, and contemporary issues faced by Muslim youth. A humble bookshelf contains tafsir and hadith texts for senior students and visiting scholars. During winter, warm shawls and blankets are distributed to needy students, and a small Zakat fund ensures that no child drops out due to financial constraints. Festivals like Eid Milad-un-Nabi and Eid al-Adha are marked with special recitations, speeches by alumni, and community meals. The locality’s respect for Jamia Nuriya is visible — shopkeepers close briefly during Jumu’ah, children greet the teachers with warmth, and donations often come unsolicited. Jamia Nuriya Masjid & Madrasa today serves as more than just a religious building. It is a grassroots institution rooted in purpose — providing access to Islamic education, a space for spiritual growth, and a constant reminder of how even modest structures can illuminate entire communities with knowledge and faith.
