The masjid, though modest in scale and design, carries the immense honor of being named after Hazrat Bilal ibn Rabah (RA)—the Prophet Muhammad’s (ﷺ) beloved companion and the first muezzin in Islam. His legacy of unwavering faith in the face of hardship gives this masjid a special spiritual resonance. Established in the mid-2000s, Belal Masjid emerged from the shared aspirations of a growing residential area. As the population in Dr. Sultan Ahmad Colony expanded, families recognized the need for a nearby mosque where they could perform daily prayers without traveling far. With collective contributions and community spirit, construction began—slowly but with great intention. The architecture of the masjid is minimalistic yet functional. Its cream-and-white exterior is clean and welcoming, with a rectangular structure housing the main prayer hall, which can comfortably accommodate around 80–100 worshippers. A single-tier mihrab faces west toward Makkah, and a low, carved minbar is used for delivering Friday sermons. Though the mosque has no dome or towering minaret, a small loudspeaker atop the roof gently projects the Adhan, heard across nearby homes and lanes. The interior of the masjid is kept neat, with regularly cleaned prayer rugs, fans overhead, and a well-maintained wudu area to the side. Volunteers from the community take turns in keeping the masjid clean and organized—especially on Jumu’ah when attendance increases. The imam, a respected local figure, leads all five daily prayers, offering reminders from the Qur’an and Sunnah during sermons. During Ramadan, Belal Masjid becomes more active—taraweeh prayers, community iftars, and Qur'an recitation circles bring together men, youth, and children in a spiritually rich environment. On Eid, the masjid’s courtyard and entrance are abuzz with cheerful greetings, and the spirit of giving and gratitude fills the air. For children in the area, the masjid acts as a quiet madrasa where they learn basic Arabic, Surahs, and Islamic etiquette. No formal seminary structure exists, but elder brothers and local teachers offer time to nurture young minds in faith. It is common to see young boys helping align prayer rugs or calling the Adhan under the imam’s guidance. Though it does not appear on tourist apps or religious site listings, Belal Masjid is deeply rooted in the lives of residents—marking time with its Adhan, offering refuge in moments of stress, and strengthening community bonds through shared rituals and values. It is the kind of masjid where every face is familiar, and every prayer line feels like home.
