Located in the heart of Sabzi Bazar, Roh, this Jama Masjid is a prominent and well-loved mosque in the Nawada district. Bustling with worshippers throughout the day—especially during Jumu’ah and Ramadan—the masjid is both a spiritual hub and a neighborhood landmark. Surrounded by the local market’s energy, it offers a serene contrast with its calm interiors, organized prayer space, and echoing Adhan. Whether for daily prayers or festive congregations, the mosque plays a vital role in the religious life of locals, blending tradition, faith, and communal belonging amidst the busy rhythm of Roh.
Standing just off Sabzi Market Road in Roh, Jama Masjid is one of the most recognized and respected Islamic institutions in the area. With its visible presence near the bustling lanes of Sabzi Bazar, this mosque has served generations of worshippers, traders, students, and travelers in the town of Nawada, Bihar. Believed to have been built in the late 1980s to early 1990s, the masjid came into being as Roh began growing both commercially and residentially. Positioned strategically near the heart of the local vegetable and goods market, the mosque offers a convenient and peaceful place for daily worship and quiet reflection amidst the busyness of trade and livelihood. Its architecture is practical, with a large rectangular prayer hall that can accommodate up to 200 worshippers. A modest dome rests above the central prayer area, and the minaret, though not towering, allows the Adhan to resonate clearly throughout the bazar. The whitewashed walls and green-painted trims give the building a fresh, welcoming look, even amid the dust and movement of market life. The interior is kept cool and clean, lined with neatly arranged prayer mats, overhead fans, and tiled flooring. The mihrab at the front marks the direction of the Kaaba, and a small wooden minbar stands to its right, used each Friday during the Jumu’ah khutbah. Despite being in a busy marketplace, the mosque’s interior offers surprising calm, providing a spiritual escape just steps away from shops and stalls. A wudu area is located on the side of the building, and volunteers from the community ensure it is maintained regularly. A small storage section at the back of the mosque contains extra prayer rugs, cleaning supplies, and Ramadan materials, all managed by a local committee. During Ramadan, the mosque becomes a spiritual beacon in Roh. Taraweeh prayers, iftar distributions, and Qur'an recitations fill the nights, as vendors and shoppers alike pause to reconnect with faith. On Eid mornings, the masjid courtyard is filled with smiling faces, colorful attire, and heartfelt embraces. The mosque also supports basic madrasa education for children in the neighborhood, especially in the evening hours. Young boys and girls come to learn how to read the Qur’an, memorize short Surahs, and understand basic Islamic teachings under the guidance of the local imam and volunteers. Despite not being a tourist spot, Jama Masjid, Roh, plays a central role in the everyday life of locals. It is a place where tradesmen find rest, children find faith, and elders find peace—all anchored in prayer and tradition.
