Built likely in the early 2000s, the masjid was developed in response to the residential boom in Indrapuri, especially as government colonies, apartment buildings, and private homes sprang up rapidly in the area. With the growing number of Muslim families in Shakur Colony, the need for a neighborhood mosque became evident—and so, with community fundraising and dedicated local effort, the Shakur Colony Masjid came into being. From the outside, the mosque reflects the practical spirit of its locality: a two-storey concrete structure painted in soft tones, with arched windows, a flat roof, and a small veranda at the entrance. A simple green nameplate marks the masjid’s identity on the gate, visible from Mahatma Gandhi Path. During busy prayer hours, shoes line the walkway and children can be heard reciting softly just before the Iqamah. Inside, the main prayer hall is carpeted, clean, and equipped with ceiling fans, tube lights, and a wall-mounted digital prayer time board. The mihrab is marked with traditional archwork and simple green tiles. A modest wooden minbar stands beside it, used for Friday sermons. While the masjid doesn’t boast grandeur or historic antiquity, its reputation for calm, cleanliness, and consistency has made it one of the most reliable local mosques in Indrapuri.
