Tucked inside the residential lanes of Samanpura, Raja Bazar, the Khagri Masjid and its attached Madrasa Tahfeezul Quran serve as a serene space for both worship and Islamic learning. Known for its peaceful setting and focus on Qur’an memorization, the masjid draws local families, students, and daily worshippers from across the Indrapuri–Raja Bazar stretch. With clean interiors, regular Salah, Jum’ah gatherings, and quiet evenings filled with Qur’anic recitation, the mosque and madrasa play a vital role in preserving spiritual and educational tradition in one of Patna’s most densely populated localities.
In the heart of Patna’s bustling Raja Bazar–Samanpura corridor, a space of quiet devotion and disciplined learning unfolds behind modest gates—Khagri Masjid and Madrasa Tahfeezul Quran. Located just off the lanes of Indrapuri, this institution serves a dual purpose: as a masjid for the neighborhood and a madrasa for children and youth dedicated to memorizing the Holy Qur’an. The area around the masjid is densely populated—residences, coaching institutes, clinics, and grocery shops all make up the rhythm of life here. But stepping into the masjid compound, the sounds shift: the buzz of traffic gives way to the softer sounds of Adhan, Qur’anic recitation, and the murmurs of children in study circles. Built in the early 2000s, the Khagri Masjid features a modern minimalist design, painted in soft tones with clean architectural lines. The prayer hall accommodates about 80–100 worshippers, with tiled flooring, green carpet runners, ceiling fans, and fluorescent lighting ensuring comfort and clarity. The mihrab is subtle, marked with tilework, and the minbar is small and wooden, used every Friday for Jum’ah khutbah. The attached Madrasa Tahfeezul Quran operates daily in the adjoining section of the masjid. Young boys—many of them from nearby homes—attend morning and evening sessions, memorizing the Qur’an under the guidance of trained ustads. The madrasa maintains a strict routine of tajweed, discipline, and spiritual instruction. Parents from the area appreciate the structured, safe space where their children not only learn to recite and memorize, but also absorb Islamic ethics and daily practice. The wudu area is functional and clean, located near the entrance. During Ramadan, the masjid becomes especially active—taraweeh prayers, iftar arrangements, and Qur’an khatam nights mark the spiritual peak of the year. Local youth help with arrangements, and families often send food or donations for community iftars. Though small in comparison to grander Jama Masjids, Khagri Masjid holds deep significance in the local community. It’s a place where daily prayers are never missed, where children begin their spiritual journey, and where elders find comfort in shared supplication. The masjid committee, composed of residents from Samanpura and Indrapuri, oversees operations—from cleaning and maintenance to madrasa salaries and community outreach. They’ve recently upgraded the sound system, installed a few solar lights, and hope to build a second floor to expand the madrasa in the coming years. In a city where mosques often compete with noise and neglect, Khagri Masjid distinguishes itself quietly—with consistency, care, and a commitment to preserving Qur’anic knowledge in the heart of everyday life.
