Police Line Jama Masjid, nestled in Shivaji Colony near the heart of Purnia’s Police Line, is a mosque that exudes discipline, simplicity, and sacred focus. Though not expansive in size, the masjid accommodates about 80–100 worshippers and is almost always filled during Jumu’ah, Eid, and Ramadan taraweeh. Its architecture is minimal yet dignified. Painted in soft white and grey hues, it features a simple facade with a singular green dome and a small minaret from which the Adhan is called. The interior is clean, lined with modest yet well-kept prayer mats, and has fans installed for ventilation. Prayer rows are marked clearly, and the mihrab is carved in basic yet elegant fashion to direct the worshippers’ focus toward Makkah. A tiled ablution (wudu) area lies just outside the prayer hall, and is cleaned daily by a volunteer team—often including off-duty constables and mosque caretakers. His Friday sermons are particularly appreciated, often touching on themes of justice, integrity, public service, and patience—topics relevant to the lives of the congregation, many of whom serve in uniform. During Ramadan, Police Line Jama Masjid becomes a center of night-long activity. Taraweeh prayers, iftar arrangements, and community dua sessions are carried out with support from police families and local donors. This spirit of collaboration and care deepens the bond between spiritual and civic life. Importantly, the masjid has also become a place of rest and reflection for individuals in distress—those seeking divine solace from the pressures of public duty, or praying for the well-being of their families.
