Tarbha Baba Masjid — more formally the shrine‑mosque (Dargah) of Hazrat Syed Shah Abdul Shakur Khan, popularly known as Tarbha Wale Baba — is located in Tarbha, Subarnapur (Sonepur) district of Odisha (PIN 767016). He was born on 20 June 1831 in Kandahar and passed away on 16 March 1984 in Tarbha at reportedly 154 years of age . Tarbha Wale Baba served for thirty years as muzāvar (caretaker) at the shrine of Ghouse‑e‑Azam in Baghdad before migrating to Tarbha in 1931 CE, around the age of 100, on the direct instructions of his spiritual guide . At that time, Tarbha was a remote village plagued by black magic; Baba is believed to have rid the locality of these negative forces, curing numerous illnesses—including leprosy and even cancer—through miraculous **karāmāt (divine miracles)** . Living modestly in a thatched hut while performing the five daily prayers, he later built a grand mosque and mausoleum complex on his dargah campus. The site serves as both mosque and shrine, and pilgrims refer to the area as Tarbha Sharif . Each year, the annual Urs festival (also called Pathan Yatra) is held at the mosque-dargah to mark the saint’s death anniversary. This two‑day event includes processions, religious discourses, cultural programs and prayers, drawing hundreds of thousands—including Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs—from across India and abroad (Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Dubai, Hong Kong, Afghanistan) . Today, Tarbha Baba’s shrine stands as a symbol of communal harmony, revered by people of various faiths, and recognized for his charitable works and spiritual legacy in western Odisha .
