The Dhamoni Dargah, officially located at Dhamoni, Ishakpura, Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh 470442, is a historic Sufi shrine of Syed Mohammad Ishaq Hussain Chishti Baljati Shah R.A. (also known as Mastan Shah Wali), a saint of Syrian origin who came to India and established his spiritual center here in the 16th–17th century. The shrine is revered for its unique mazhar (tomb), which is constructed not in stone or cement but of sand and mud. It is locally believed that each morning the tomb appears disturbed—sand scattered—symbolic of the saint’s continued spiritual presence, and is re‑formed into a mound before the shrine is closed each evening . Historically, Dhamoni was a fortified town and an important garrison in the Bundela-Garha Mandla kingdom. King Surat Shah of Garha Mandla commissioned the construction of Dhamoni Fort in the 16th century. Over time it was ruled by various regional powers including the Bundelas, Mughals, and Marathas. Despite much of the fort now lying in ruins, the remnants—such as the main gate (Haathi Darwaza), bastions, palace-like structures, and ancient wells—reflect its once strategic significance and archaeological value in the region . The shrine is famous for its annual three‑day Urs fair (Dhamoni Urs), held in May—typically from the 5th to 7th or mid‑May—attracting devotees from across Madhya Pradesh and beyond. It commemorates the death anniversary of Mastan Shah Wali and includes qawwali performances, processions like the Sandali Chadar, and communal prayers. The Urs is one of the largest Islamic fair events in the Sagar district and serves as a symbol of communal harmony and spiritual devotion .
