Masjid Sajida Sultan, located on Karbala Road in Shaheed Nagar, Bhopal, is a modern mosque built in memory of Begum Sajida Sultan, the last Begum of Bhopal. The land for the mosque was donated in 2003 by her son, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, making it a unique contribution in the city’s history where mosques were traditionally patronized by Bhopal’s female rulers. Completed around 2008 after overcoming legal and land challenges, the mosque spans nearly 19,600 square feet and overlooks the Bada Talab (Upper Lake). It includes a separate section for women accommodating about 150 worshippers and serves as a center for both spiritual and educational activities. Alongside daily prayers and Ramadan recitations, a madrasa is also being developed to provide religious studies as well as modern subjects like science, mathematics, and computer education, making the mosque a blend of cultural heritage, devotion, and community development.
