Azakhana Taqi Hadi Sahab is a historic dargah religious site in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, serving as an Imambargah for mourning rituals and community gatherings. It is closely associated with the Syed Hadi Raza Taqvi family and is part of the Mohalla Mullana locality's rich heritage of Azakhana structures. The site features a mosque and is used for majlis (religious assemblies) during Muharram and other Islamic observances.
Azakhana Taqi Hadi Sahab, located in the heart of Amroha's Mohalla Mullana area, represents a significant Shia religious landmark in northern India. This Imambargah, also known as part of the Wazeer-un-Nisa complex, was originally established in the early 19th century by Musammat Wazeer-un-Nisa in memory of her daughter, around 1811 AD (post-1226 Hijri). It includes an adjacent mosque and has been maintained through waqf properties dedicated by successive generations of the Syed family. The current structure was substantially rebuilt in 1946 by Saiyad Mehdi Raza Taqvi, a prominent descendant of the lineage tracing back to Syed Mohammad Ashraf Danishmand, who was honored with the title "Danishmand" by Mughal Emperor Babur for his scholarly contributions. Today, the site is managed by Syed Hadi Raza Taqvi, reflecting its ongoing role in preserving Shia traditions. The Azakhana is integral to Amroha's vibrant Azadari (mourning) culture, hosting daily majlis during Muharram at 4:00 PM and processions like Tazia Juloos on the 10th of Muharram starting at 8:00 AM. It also features events in Safar, including a Shab-e-Bedari on the 14th and majlis from the 18th to 21st of Ramadan. The site houses Noor-ul-Madaris, one of Amroha's oldest madrasas, emphasizing its educational and spiritual functions. As a waqf property, it underscores the community's commitment to religious observance without external funding, and it remains a focal point for local Shia rituals, including the display of tasbih (prayer beads) that symbolize the events of Karbala.
