The Dargah Hazrat Syed Mohammad Khaleel Kazmi Khaki Rh.A stands as a culturally valuable and historically significant Sufi shrine in the heart of Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, reflecting the enduring legacy of Islamic scholarship and spirituality in northern India. Hazrat Syed Mohammad Khaleel Kazmi, affectionately known as Allama Khaki, was born on 1 Shawwal 1313 Hijri (16 March 1896) in Mohalla Katkoi, Amroha (then part of Moradabad district), into a family of Husaini Sayyids descending from Imam Musa Kazim (A.S.). From a young age, he displayed profound piety; upon his birth, his grandfather, Peer Hazrat Shah Ji Ghulam Haider Sahab, placed his turban on the infant's head and declared him a "madarzad wali" (blessed from the cradle) and his spiritual successor. His uncle, Hafiz Yaqoob Ali Sahab, recited the adhan and iqamah in his ears, foreseeing him as the "light of the family." Allama Khaki's life was marked by exemplary devotion to Islamic learning and Sufi practices. He memorized the Quran at an early age and pursued advanced studies in fiqh, hadith, and tasawwuf under renowned scholars, becoming a leading figure in the Qadri Sufi order. He was titled "Qudwat us Salikeen" (Exemplar of the Seekers), "Zebatul Aarifeen" (Ornament of the Gnostics), "Khawaja Siraj-ud-Deen" (Lamp of the Faith), and "Khatim ul Muhaddiseen" (Seal of the Revivers). His teachings emphasized love for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), ethical living, and spiritual purification, influencing generations in the Barelvi tradition prevalent in the region. He married twice, fathering several children who continued his scholarly lineage, including successors like Hazrat Molana Noor ul Ameen Kazmi, the current Sajjada Nasheen (custodian) of the dargah. Allama Khaki passed away on 27 Ramadan 1390 Hijri (28 November 1970) during Laylat al-Qadr, while reciting the Quran. His death occurred at home in Katkoi after returning from Pilibhit, where he had iftarred with a single date during Ramadan. The dargah was established immediately after his wisaal (demise) in 1970, serving as his mausoleum and a hub for devotees. The shrine complex, situated in the historic town of Amroha—known for its ancient Naqvi Sayyid settlements dating back to 1190 AD—preserves his legacy amid a landscape rich in Sufi heritage, including nearby shrines like that of Syed Hussain Sharfuddin Shah Wilayat Naqvi.
