The Dargah of Hazrat Syed Makhdoom Ashraf Jahangir Semnani (also referred to as Hazrat Syed Ahmad Hussain Ashraf in some local traditions and family lineages) is a revered Sufi shrine in Ashrafpur Kichhauchha, Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. The Dargah of Hazrat Syed Makhdoom Ashraf Jahangir Semnani, a prominent figure in India's Sufi heritage, stands as a testament to the Chishti tradition's emphasis on spiritual enlightenment and communal harmony. Born in 1285 CE (708 AH) in Semnan, Iran, to Sultan Syed Ibrahim Noor Bakhshi, the saint traced his lineage to Imam Hussain through the Husseini Syed family. At age 23, he abdicated his royal throne to pursue Sufism, traveling extensively across India, South Asia, and the Middle East. He settled in Kichhauchha (now Ashrafpur Kichhauchha) around 1358 CE after overcoming local tribal conflicts, renaming the area Ashrafpur in his honor. His teachings blended Chishti and Qadiri influences, establishing the Ashrafi order through his nephew and successor, Syed Shah Abdur Razzaq Nurul Ain, a descendant of Abdul Qadir Jilani. The saint's urs (death anniversary) is observed on the 28th of Muharram, drawing millions for prayers and qawwali, fostering interfaith unity as devotees from all backgrounds seek blessings for healing and peace. The shrine complex, constructed shortly after the saint's passing in 1386 CE (808 AH), is architecturally modest yet spiritually profound, elevated on a small hill encircled by a serene pond that enhances its tranquil ambiance. Adorned with intricate marble work, colorful tiles, and glass elements, the mausoleum houses the saint's grave and adjacent tombs of his successors, including Syed Mohammed Mukhtar Ashraf (d. 1996 CE). The site includes mosques like Auliya Masjid and Neer Sharif, a chilla gah (meditation retreat), and Rauza Bibi Sultan's Khatoon, reflecting the Chishti focus on devotion and simplicity.
