Tansen Maqbara, situated in Tansen Nagar, Gwalior, is a significant historical and cultural landmark dedicated to the legendary musician Miyan Tansen, one of the nine jewels (Navaratnas) in Emperor Akbar's court. Tansen, born as Ramtanu Pandey in the late 15th century, is renowned for his contributions to Hindustani classical music. He is credited with the creation of several ragas and is believed to have had the ability to light lamps and bring rain through his music. The tomb is located near the tomb of his spiritual mentor, Sheikh Muhammad Ghaus, a revered Sufi saint. The architectural design of the tomb reflects Mughal influences, characterized by intricate jali work, a central dome, and a serene garden setting. The site not only serves as a tribute to Tansen's musical legacy but also as a venue for the annual Tansen Samaroh, a classical music festival held every December to honor his memory and contributions to Indian music.
