The Mahfil Khana, also known as the Madarsa, is a historic structure from the Lodi period, dating back to the 15th?16th century CE. It is situated within the Dargah Complex in Chiragh Delhi, a locality in South Delhi. The monument is approximately 850 meters southwest of the Chirag Delhi bus stand and 500 meters southwest of the Chirag Delhi metro station. It occupies a central position on the south side of the Chirag Delhi village, in an area between the floodplain of the Yamuna River and the Delhi Ridge, a northern extension of the Aravalli Range. The Mahfil Khana is a single-storey rectangular structure measuring 9.75 meters by 2.9 meters, consisting of three bays. Each bay is roofed with a flat dome. The building is primarily constructed of rubble masonry coated with plaster and features pillars made of local grey stone. The architectural style is distinctly Lodi, marked by its simplicity and robust construction. On the western side, a vaulted chamber connects the Mahfil Khana to the Majlish Khana. This chamber, measuring 5.58 meters in length and matching the width of the Mahfil Khana, includes three doorways on its northern side. The structure features a flat roof accessible via a staircase located on the eastern end. A notable element of its design is the projected chhajja (eave), supported by intricately carved stone brackets. The materials used in its construction include rubble masonry, plaster, sandstone, and local stone, emphasizing durability and regional craftsmanship. Despite its historical significance, no substantial traditional or local narratives are associated with the site. The Mahfil Khana remains one of the oldest and most architecturally significant structures within the Dargah Complex, reflecting the Lodi dynasty's architectural heritage.
