Dargah-e-Aala Hazrat (Bareilly Sharif Dargah)

Dargah-e-Aala Hazrat (Bareilly Sharif Dargah)

A famous Islamic shrine and mausoleum in Bareilly dedicated to the eminent scholar and saint Imam Ahmad Raza Khan (Ala Hazrat). It is a pilgrimage centre for followers of the Barelvi movement.

Dargah-e-Aala Hazrat, often called Bareilly Sharif Dargah, is the mausoleum of the revered Sufi scholar Imam Ahmad Raza Khan (1856–1921), who founded the Barelvi school of Sunni Islam. The shrine was completed in 1921 and features a distinct architectural style with a large dome and minarets. The complex comprises the tomb, mosque, madrasa, and a library. It is both a spiritual and cultural center: people from all over India and abroad visit especially during Urs-e-Razvi, the death anniversary, when thousands congregate for prayer, sermons, and devotional gatherings. The Dargah is located in the Mohalla “Saudagran” area of Bareilly Shareef and lies a few kilometers from the railway station, making it relatively accessible by local transport. Because it is in a dense urban environment, some of the surrounding lanes are narrow, which can make access by large vehicles difficult — many visitors prefer rickshaws or walking for the final stretch.
