Born on November 23, 1943, in Bareilly's Saudagaran neighborhood, Mufti Akhtar Raza Khan rose to prominence as a scholar, jurist, and spiritual leader, earning titles such as Tajush Shariah (Crown of Islamic Law) and Grand Mufti of India. He succeeded his grandfather, Mustafa Raza Khan, in 1981, guiding the community through fatwas on jurisprudence, anti-terrorism stances, and Sufi practices until his passing on July 20, 2018, at age 74. Following his demise, the dargah was promptly established in 2018 as his eternal resting place, designed as a serene khanqah (spiritual hospice) adjacent to the iconic Bareilly Sharif Dargah.
