Nestled in the heart of Mohalla Jasoli, a traditional neighborhood in Bareilly, the Dargah Sharif Maulana Hassan Raza Khan stands as a quiet testament to the enduring legacy of one of India's influential Sufi scholars. Maulana Hassan Raza Khan Barelvi, born on October 1, 1859 (Rabi' al-Awwal 1276 Hijri), was a key figure in the Ahl-e-Sunnat wal Jamaat (Barelvi) movement. As the younger brother of the renowned Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi—the founder of the Barelvi school—he contributed profoundly to Islamic scholarship, poetry, and Sufism. A disciple of Syed Shah Ale Rasool Marehrawi in the Qadiri order, Hassan Raza specialized in fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), tasawwuf (Sufism), and Urdu poetry, authoring works that defended orthodox Sunni practices against emerging reformist ideologies. The dargah was established in 1908, immediately following Hassan Raza's passing on October 18 (22nd Ramadan 1326 Hijri), at the age of 49. It is located within the City Graveyard of Bareilly Sharif, where his mazaar (tomb) rests beside that of his mother, creating a familial spiritual enclave. Though smaller and more localized compared to the grand Bareilly Sharif Dargah (Dargah-e-Ala Hazrat) dedicated to his brother, this shrine attracts Barelvi followers seeking blessings for spiritual guidance and intercession.
