Ahmad Shah I, also known as Ahmad Khan before ascending the throne, was a significant ruler of the Muzaffarid dynasty and governed the Gujarat Sultanate from 1411 to 1442. A grandson of Sultan Muzaffar Shah, the founder of the dynasty, Ahmad Shah I played a crucial role in shaping the early history of the sultanate.

He showed great reverence for Sheikh Rukn-ud-Din, who was the representative of Sheikh Moinuddin Chishti, the revered Sufi saint of Ajmer. Additionally, he held Sheikh Ahmed Khattu in high regard, who is buried at the Sarkhej Roza in Ahmedabad, a place of great religious significance. Another key figure in his spiritual circle was the Bukharan Sheikh Burhan-ud-Din, also known as Kutbi Alam, who was the father of the famous Shah Waliullah. This strong connection to spiritual and religious leaders not only shaped Sultan Ahmed Shah's governance but also played a role in the cultural and religious fabric of Ahmedabad, making it a significant center for both politics and spirituality during his reign.
