Sheikhupur itself was established over three centuries ago by Shaikh Ibrahim Ali Farooqui, known as Nawab Mohtashim Khan, the second son of Qutubuddin Koka, who served as the foster brother to Emperor Jahangir. This founding ties the village—and by extension the mosque—to the imperial Mughal court, where the Faridi branch of Farooqi Sheikhs gained prominence during the reigns of Akbar and Jahangir. The mosque, named after the Ansari community (descendants of early Islamic converts and scholars), was constructed during this era, likely as part of the village's development to support religious and communal life amid the fertile lands bordering the Saut River. Architecturally, Ansari Masjid embodies the understated style of local Mughal-influenced mosques, featuring a prayer hall oriented toward Mecca, arched entrances, and minimal ornamentation that prioritizes functionality over grandeur. Unlike the more ornate Jama Masjid in nearby Badaun, built in 1223 by Sultan Iltutmish, Ansari Masjid remains a community focal point rather than a monumental site.
