The revered Shrine of Hazrat Zain-ud-Din Wali (RA) is one of the most spiritually significant and historically rich Sufi sites in Kashmir. Although the main shrine is located on a 100-foot hillock in Aishmuqam, approximately 20 km from Pahalgam, its influence and associated khanqahs extend across the Anantnag region, including the locality near Mehndi Kadal. Hazrat Zain-ud-Din Wali (RA), originally named Zia Singh before embracing Islam, was a prominent disciple of Sheikh Nur-ud-Din Noorani (Nund Rishi), a leading saint of the Reshi order. The saint secluded himself for years inside a deep cavern of Aishmuqam, dedicating his life to meditation, spiritual purification, and service to humanity. The shrine, dating back to the 15th century, is renowned for its divine atmosphere, ancient wooden architecture, relics of the saint, and annual Urs celebrations that attract thousands of devotees from across Kashmir. The khanqah and affiliated mosques near Mehndi Kadal continue to uphold the teachings of love, simplicity, harmony, and spiritual discipline taught by Hazrat Zain-ud-Din Wali (RA). The shrine remains a symbol of Kashmir’s rich Sufi heritage and communal harmony.
